Russellville is a small town in Russell County, Arkansas, USA with a population of just over 1,000. Russellville was the site of the first public school in the USA in 1884 and the second public high school on the campus of Arkansas State University in 1896.

Cotton became a profitable crop in Russellville, and in the early 20th century wagons sold bales on Main Street. Osage, from Missouri, hunted in a valley that is now home to Russell County, Arkansas and Arkansas State University. Cotton has become a profitable crop in Russellville and indeed one of Arkansas "most popular agricultural assets. In the late 19th and early 21st centuries, a wagon on a middle main road sold a bale, but by the early 20,000 they were selling it all the time.
In 1876 the town had about 800 inhabitants, who were supplied by a post office, a fire station, a public library and a grocery store. 18, 1976, it had an average annual income of $1.5 million, enough to serve the roughly $800 million population. In 18 years, they boasted annual total sales of about $2,200.00, or $3,300,000. The town, incorporated on June 7, 1870, grew slowly because the Little Rock-Fort Smith Railroad stopped because of the Civil War.
But with the construction of a dam on Lake Dardanelle in the mid-19th century, a great economic boom came. The dam created a lake that led to the development of the town of Russelville, the first town in Arkansas with more than 1,000 inhabitants. It has an unmaintained path that leads to the peaks of prominent rocky outcrops, offers good views over the Arkansas River, and acts like a scenic trail system with a variety of trails and picnic spots.
Little Rock is just over an hour east of I-40, Oklahoma City is four hours west of I-40, and the drive from Little Rock to Arkansas City, the capital of Arkansas, takes just over two hours.
